Hardcastle Wins NDP Nomination

The Windsor-Tecumseh NDP Political Riding Association has chosen a nominee to run under its banner in the upcoming federal election.

Former Tecumseh Deputy Mayor Cheryl Hardcastle was nominated at a riding association meeting on Thursday, over military veteran Bruce Moncur, activist Patrick Hannon and social activist Sandra Gonzalez.

With the NDP holding the Windsor-Tecumseh riding for 14 years, Hardcastle says she has big shoes to fill.

"First I have to touch base within the party and find out what all of my procedures and framework are to be the actual candidate when the federal election is called," she says. "I know I'm going to have roles and responsibilities within that and I'll have to figure out what those are."

Current MP Joe Comartin announced his retirement last June. During that time, he’s served as the NDP critic for the environment, public safety, democratic reform, justice and national defence.
