Ford Canada's CEO urges local teachers to steer students towards careers in the automotive industry.
Diane Craig spoke to 500 teachers with the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board Friday. The teachers were taking part in a professional development event at St.Thomas of Villanova Catholic High School in LaSalle.
Craig says technicians are in short supply at dealerships across the country.
Afterwards, reporters asked Craig about the possibility of new product coming to Windsor, but Craig was non-committal. "We'll see what the future holds," she told reporters.
Windsor recently lost out to Mexico for new investment at the Ford Essex Engine Plant, and a petition by two Belle River women calls for the provincial government to reopen discussions with the company. Repeatedly, there have also been calls to develop a new national auto strategy. Craig didn't comment, instead responding that Ford has a good relationship with Unifor, the union that represents its workers, and senior levels of government.
