The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board is looking into a $46,000 deficit of its Community Use of Schools Program.
Chairperson Barb Holland feels it's important to head off the money problem before it gets bigger, but doesn't want to deter the use of the board's schools.
"Any deficit can grow and it's perhaps a good time to take a look at where we are now and to see how we can still offer these facilities at a really great price so that a lot of people can enjoy them, but still protect the board from deficit," says Holland, noting the board's schools are well used. "We have our parish partners coming in and they're using our facilities for youth groups, for retreats; we have all kinds of community sports programs coming in."
The 2013/14 deficit makes up just 0.19% of the board's expenditures. A report to trustees shows the program deficit for the 2012/13 year was $32,000 and points to a decline in government subsidy as part of the issue in balancing the budget.
