No Barn For The Express

Windsor Express Owner Dartis Willis's dream of the team playing at the old Windsor Arena, known as The Barn, seems to be just that.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens doesn't see it happening.

"Playing one game at The Barn is not going to be feasible," says Dilkens. "The entire fire supression system has been removed from the facility, so in order to be able to open the facility to the public we'd have to reinstall, at a considerable cost, an entire fire supression system, so playing a single game would not be possible."

However, Dilkens thinks a downtown location may be best for the basketball team.

"The setup at the WFCU [Centre] is certainly more of a show, it's a new facility and there's a lot of pizzazz to be in that location, but the Express may get more bodies in the facility for their games if they were in sort of the downtown core."

The arena is no longer in operation, but the city has already approved in principle to sell the property to the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board.
