Border Logistics To Assist Windsor

The Institute for Border Logistics and Security in Windsor will help local business flourish, according to its new CEO.

Laurie Tannous, a lawyer and former CBSA officer, says the focus will be on building the transportation and supply chain industry in Windsor, while helping small and medium sized businesses. "Small business, here in this region, have things to export, but they don't know how. So hopefully the IBLS can assist them in becoming well known on the world stage."

Tannous says the first step for the institute is conducting a needs assessment. From there, creative solutions need to be made using connections through the City of Windsor and cross-border logistics research at the University of Windsor.

The IBLS will be housed in a new 10,000 sq. ft. building being constructed at the Windsor International Airport, which is expected to be finished by 2016.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens expects the facility to eventually create 100 full-time jobs, and 250 construction jobs in the meantime.
