UPDATE: LaSalle Open To Policing Option

LaSalle's now willing to entertain a police costing proposal from the City of Windsor.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens met with LaSalle Mayor Ken Antaya and Amherstburg Mayor Aldo DiCarlo this morning to discuss the idea of a regional police force.

Dilkens believes it would simply be easier, under legislation, to submit an application for a regional service involving three contiguous municipalities. "If that's not the case, the legislation still provides that we can provide a costing to the Town of Amherstburg and there's a mechanism to make that work if Amherstburg so decides to go with the City of Windsor for its policing service," explains the Windsor mayor.

Amherstburg is already expecting to hear a costing proposal from the city, but LaSalle hadn't been as receptive to the idea until this morning.

Dilkens says the chiefs of police will meet next, to discuss levels of service in each municipality before dollar figures can be worked out, but there's no time line on when those meetings could take place.
