Walkerville BIA Head Resigns

After 16 years as the coordinator of the Walkerville Business Improvement Association, Joan Charette is stepping down.

Charette says she planned to leave a year ago and focus her energy on revitalization efforts on Ottawa St. after she took over as coordinator of that BIA.

"It was the last term of the current board, and they asked me to stay on. So I did, and I worked both BIAs for the last year which was never my intention," she says. "I think it's kind of a conflict of interest when you work two boards."

On Tuesday, she gave the BIA in Walkerville her official resignation. "You know Walkerville is doing so well, and it's wonderful that they are, and I just think I would be more help to Ottawa St. at this point."

Charette says this is a big year for the Ottawa Street Business Improvement Association. She says new business are opening, and the shopping district celebrates its centennial in the upcoming year.
