Local Students Tackle Drunk Driving

Grade school students in Essex County are taking drinking and driving very seriously this holiday season.

So much so they've created a campaign that distributes bags with sobering messages being handed out at Amherstburg's LCBO.

Josie Sleiman is a Grade 7 student at St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School who's helping with something that started in B.C. "Students in a certain class some of them were complaining that their parents were over-celebrating with alcohol over the holidays," says Sleiman. "And too many accidents were occuring so the class teacher decided to create the message on a bottle campaign."

This year students made about 500 bags with messages like "You don't need beer for Christmas cheer."

"We really want to send a positive message out there to people and to think about others and themselves before they get into that car knowing they're intoxicated," says Sleiman.
