Small Carts A Big Help

Windsor Regional Hospital's Ouellette Campus now has three new palliative care carts.

Better known as "comfort carts," they're designed to deliver beverages and snacks to families who can't leave their loved one's side during a long stay at the hospital.

Rose-Anne Bondy's father John Meloche passed away in September after battling cancer, and that's when she and her eight siblings decided to raise money for the carts. "Because we have such a large family, we were able to go in and out (of our father's room) constantly. So it was okay. But someone with a small group of people -- say there are only two or three people in the family -- they don't want to leave their father when he's dying."

The Meloche family raised nearly $5,000, which went through the In Honour Of The Ones We Love charity to purchase and maintain the carts.
