Public Meeting With Canada Post Needed

Tecumseh's mayor is calling on Canada Post and the union that represents mail carriers to clarify plans to eliminate door-to-door service.

Gary McNamara says he doesn't have a problem with eliminating residential delivery in new neighbourhoods. He's concerned about the welfare of seniors and the disabled living in existing areas that could be affected by the change as early as next year.

McNamara has a number of questions, especially surrounding service in the winter. "The interim report that we did receive from Canada Post doesn't really give you a sense of how they're going to deal with the disabled and certainly the seniors in our community," he says. "How long is it going to be before they clean them? Some times it takes a week, two weeks before they even come down and clean them."

He'd like to hold a public meeting sometime early in the new year.
