UPDATE: Downtown Fire Ruled Accidental

An apartment fire in downtown Windsor that sent three people to hospital has been ruled accidental.

The Windsor Fire and Rescue Service says the fire at 810 Ouellette Ave. broke out on the 11th floor on Friday around 3am. Firefighters had the blaze out within half an hour.

Two residents were taken to hospital, treated for smoke inhalation and later released. Another resident was taken to hospital in critical condition. As of Saturday evening, the resident's condition has improved but he/she remains in hospital. A firefighter also suffered a cut hand.

The Ontario Fire Marshall's Office was called to the scene to investigate, and it was determined that the fire started in the bedroom of the 11th floor apartment. The cause of the blaze has not yet been released but damage is estimated at $365,000.
