Talking New Automotive Strategy

A Canadian committee, who's purpose would be to attract auto investments, can start right here in Windsor.

That's the message from President of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association Flavio Volpe. He says it's clear all sectors and levels of government want to attract and retain auto investments, but a new strategy is needed.

"We need to be proactive, both on engaging (manufacturers) and on industry intel that says where their programs are going," he says. "We need to then actively speak to them before they tell us, 'this is what we're thinking.'"

Volpe believes it's up to the provincial or federal government to take the lead on creating a new strategy.

Recently, Windsor lost out to Mexico for Ford's engine manufacturing world headquarters, and the APMA president says Windsor, Ontario and Canada as a whole can win more of these battles in the future with a more organized approach.
