Flu Shot Demand Doesn't Change

An official with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit says so far, attendance at this year's flu shot clinics is about the same as last year.

The health unit tracks attendance at its clinics across the region. It's statistics do not include patients who have received the vaccine at a doctor's office or a pharmacy. However, Dr.Wajid Ahmed says slightly more vaccines were sent to those partners. "That doesn't mean they've used this vaccine or are in the process of using this vaccine."

It was this week last year officials confirmed the first case of influenza in Windsor-Essex. So far this season, Ahmed says there have been no cases recorded, but "When it comes, it comes in hard." While reminding the public it's never too late to get the vaccine, he also cautions it takes some time to develop immunity.

According to the health unit's website, there are three flu vaccine clinics planned for this month.
