Format For LHIN Meeting Tonight

Officials with the Erie-St. Clair LHIN have set out 400 chairs at the Roma Club, but are ready if even more people show up for the discussion about the future of the Leamington obstetrics department.

According to LHIN Spokesperson Shannon Sasseville, the meeting will begin with presentations from stakeholders like mayors and health care providers. "Then we will hear from community residents for about an hour or so at about 8pm. Following that, our board will have some discussion on the information they have been provided. Perhaps provide next steps."

People wishing to speak must show up before the 5pm meeting to register for the open mic portion.

Sasseville doesn't expect a decision will be made tonight, instead carrying over to a future meeting. The next scheduled meeting is Nov. 25 on Walpole Island.

Planned births are scheduled to end after the Leamington District Memorial Hospital board voted to shut down the obstetrics department. They blame a $700,000 funding shortfall, which is controlled by the LHIN.
