It took him nearly 20 years, but a Windsor horse trainer can now call himself a Prince of Wales Stakes champion.

His horse, Coltimus Prime, went wire-to-wire at Fort Erie Racetrack Tuesday night, to claim the $500,000 purse.

Justin Nixon, 45, got his start in horse racing at the Fort Erie oval in 1996.

The Prince of Wales Stakes is the second leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, which includes the Queen’s Plate and Breeders’ Stakes.
