CEN Biotech is investing $12-million in Lakeshore to build a medical marijuana grow and processing facility.
Health Canada has conditionally approved the facility and the company will now enter the build phase of the project. CEN Biotech expects to have the facility built by the end of May and harvest its first crop in the summer. If the company meets all of the conditions, it will be licensed to produce up to 1.3-million lbs of marijuana per year.
CEN Biotech expects to hire upwards of 50 people in various fields including horticulture, pharmacy and security.
“We intend to put up two security fences, 12 feet high, razor ribbon, you name it. It’s a significant investment in fencing, there will be cameras, night vision cameras, we’ll have security staff on staff 24/7,” says President Bill Chaaban.
