Trap Neuter Program Launched

The Windsor Essex Humane Society is focusing trap-neuter-return program in two areas of the region.

With the help of a $20,000 grant from PetSmart around 250 stray cats will be neutered. The Humane Soceity sets 20 traps a day in each area. The first site is a residential area in Windsor’s west end bordered by Peter St., South St., Bloomfield Rd., Prince Rd. The second site is Viscount Estates in Essex.

Executive Director Melanie Coulter say they selected these neighbourhoods because there are a high number of feral cats that are not being fixed.  “Trap-Neuter-Return is most effective if you are doing it in an area and your fixing 70%-80% of the cats in the area.  If you can get the majority of the cats in your target area fixed your going to achieve 0 population growth.”
