Windsor childcare operators are worried lack of funding from the province will mean more daycare closures.
Sundowners Daycare Executive Director Leah Hills says the government needs to subsidize more spots.”The cost of providing childcare programs for the age group zero to three years old are much higher and more costly for parents who need these services. ”
Windsor’s Community Development and Health Commissioner Ronna Warsh says there are 485 children on the subsidy waitlist and that number is growing by up 20 a day.
She says the problem stems from the province’s implementation of full-day junior and senior kindergarten and more parents wanting to return to work. Warsh will be sending letters to the province and local MPPs asking for a review of municipal subsidies.
