A Lakeshore town councillor is calling for tax breaks for residents living near the old Maidstone landfill on Puce Rd.
The dump has been closed since 1997, but the town is in talks with Windsor-Essex Parkway officials to relocate waste from construction at the site. Dan Diemer says it’ll mean some tough times ahead for nearby residents. “It’s going to be two to three to four years of lots of noise, dust, trucks, traffic.”
Eventually the town wants to turn the landfill into parkland.
Diemer isn’t sure what form the compensation would take, but says ”I would like to see their taxes were halted during the time their lives are interfered with.”
