Barratt Thrilled For NHL Opportunity

Former Sarnia Sting Assistant Coach Jeff Barratt is thrilled to realize his lifelong dream of becoming an NHL amateur scout.

He's leaving the Sting after three seasons behind the bench to move into the scouting role with the Boston Bruins.

Barratt says coaching in the OHL, which he considers one of the best junior leagues in the world, helped him a lot in his hockey journey.

"It's been a long journey, and I can't thank my staff in Sarnia enough," says Barratt. "Without the OHL component, I don't think this dream would ever have been realized. So, once again I can't appreciate my time more in Sarnia.

It's just an amazing thing to have this opportunity. I couldn't be more excited, but I have to say I'm leaving an equally tremendous situation too. The people that I've worked with in Sarnia over the past three years are tremendous people."

Barratt says he's going to miss everyone in the Sting organization, and sees a bright future for the club.

He's already been in contact with Bruins brass and is looking forward to attending their training camp in September.

Barratt was a goaltender for the Montreal Juniors and Laval Voisins of the QMJHL from 1978-1982.

He also spent the better part of 20 years operating and coaching the Mercer Chiefs' program.
