Sports Hall Of Fame Award Winners

A local wrestling star is headlining this years list of Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame award winners.

Darby Huckle has been named the 2018 winner of the Jack Isom Award, an honour given to athletes who have excelled at the international level.

The 25-year-old Sarnia-native won gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Singapore in 2010, participated in the Pam American Games at Guatemala in 2012, and took part in the Junior World Championships in Thailand that same year.

She also won a bronze at the Fila Cadet Pan Am Games in El Salvador in 2008.

The Hall of Fame named Alec Trusler and Caroline Forbes as its 2018 winners of the Pappy Burr Award, which goes to high school graduates with outstanding achievements both academically and athletically.

Forbes was one of the top cross-country runners during her time at Northern Collegiate. She helped the Vikings senior girls win gold at the OFSSA cross-country championships. Forbes was also a star in a number of other sports.

Trusler was a defenceman with the Sarnia Legionnaires Jr. 'B' hockey team last year.

During his high school career at Northern he was quarterback of the football team, participated in volleyball, hockey and track and field.

The three athletes will honoured at a hall of fame enshrinement dinner September 15 at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club.
