Stan Slack International Wood Bat Tournament On This Weekend

The fifth annual Stan Slack International Wood Bat Tournament is being held in Sarnia this weekend, with six teams competing for the championship.

The Sarnia Midget Braves are up against teams from Stratford, Oshawa, Guelph, West Toronto, and Springfield, OH.

The Braves won last year's tournament for the first time in 23 years.

Field Manager Jim Bigras says it's exciting to come in as defending champions.

"It took a long time to actually get into the final round over 23 years but it was a good win last year, the kids played very well all weekend."

This is the 24th year the Braves are hosting the tournament. It was renamed in 2014 in honour of longtime player Stan Slack.

Action gets underway at 1pm on Friday, with the Braves facing Stratford at Errol Russell Park.

Games are being played at Errol Russell and Blackwell parks all weekend, with the finals set for 4pm Sunday.

Fans are encouraged to bring chairs to Blackwell Park because the new bleachers likely won't be installed until the fall.
