Rymsha, Sting Break Saginaw 6-1

Drake Rymsha scored twice as the Sarnia Sting beat the Saginaw Spirit 6-1 Monday afternoon.

The Sting collected their 40th win of the season before 4,438 on Family Day at Progressive Auto Sales Arena. They have 84 points in the OHL Western Conference and currently hold the third seed in the playoff picture, behind division leaders Sault Ste. Marie and Kitchener.

Franco Sproviero started things off for the Sting with a goal at 9:16 in the first period, his ninth goal of the season. Rymsha scored his first goal of the game a little over two minutes later, then Jordan Kyrou followed suit for a 3-0 Sarnia lead after one period.

Cameron Lamour was pulled from the Saginaw goal after that goal and replaced by Evan Cormier.

The Sting added two goals in the second period. Adam Ruzicka made the score 4-0 at 6:47, and Rymsha put his second puck in of the day late in the frame.

Sean Josling added a goal for good measure in the third period, though Saginaw's Max Grondin scored to deprive Justin Fazio of a shutout in the Sting net.

Fazio had a total of 24 saves. Cormier and Lamour combined for 28 saves for the Spirit.

The Sting head to Flint on Friday night to take on the Firebirds. Sarnia Sting vs Saginaw Spirit Family Day Feb. 19, 2018 (Photo courtesy of Metcalfe Photography)Sarnia Sting vs Saginaw Spirit Family Day Feb. 19, 2018 (Photo courtesy of Metcalfe Photography)
