WOAA Penatly Eliminates Squires From Playoff Contention

A small mistake is really costing the Petrolia Squires senior hockey team.

The club has been stripped of wins against Huron East, Lucknow and Milverton for playing with an unsigned player. The loss of 6 points results in the Squires being eliminated from the Senior AA Playoffs.

President Dave Connors made the announcement on Friday:

Hello fans, as we approach our final 2 regular season games the WOAA has decided today to inform Squires Senior Management that we have been playing with an "unsigned " player for the season. When we sign players a copy of their card must be scanned and emailed before the player steps on the ice, and then sent into the league office, during the 30+ cards being signed, scanned , and emailed 1 card was missed. (this player is a long time team member) As a result the WOAA has stripped 6 points from the team resulting in eliminating the Squires from Senior AA playoffs.

We are exteremly upset as to why the league has decided to make this decision at this time. Please forward any questions or concerns to myself.

On behalf of senior management and Squires Executive we apologize for the mistake. We will continue to strive to keep Senior Hockey alive in Petrolia regardless of what cowardly acts by other teams for nothing but their own benefit are brought upon us.

The Squires wrapped up their home schedule on Friday with a 6-2 win over Tavistock.
