Jr. Hockey Wrap-Up - November 11, 2017

The Sarnia Legionnaires scored three third period goals in their 5-3 win over the Leamington Flyers Saturday night at Sarnia Arena.

The Legionnaires move into a tie with the Vipers for fourth place in the GOJHL Western Conference standings with 23 points apiece.

The Flyers scored the only goal of the first period on the power play, courtesy of Preston Corp.

The Legionnaires tied the game then took the lead with two goals within the first two minutes of the second frame, with power play goals by Brock Perry and Ben Scohch, so it was 2-1 Sarnia. Leamington fought back and got two straight goals of its own before second intermission, from Jaydon Fetter and a power play goal by Griffin Robinson.

The third period was all Sarnia. Sam McCormack and Joel Pavey scored, and Schoch added his second goal of the night.

Will Barber had 25 saves in net for Sarnia. Noah Hedrick stopped 21 shots in goal for Leamington.

The Legionnaires host the Komoka Kings Thursday night, while the Flyers head to Chatham Sunday.

The LaSalle Vipers did all their scoring in the third period in their 3-0 win over the Kings in Komoka.

The Kings sit in eighth place in the Western Conference with 14 points.

The first period was scoreless, with each team getting seven shots. Komoka killed off two penalties while the Vipers dealt with one.

There was still no goal in the second period, and each team exchanged a power play opportunity. By second intermission the Kings were outshooting LaSalle 14-12.

The Vipers finally found the net in the third as Manny Silverio scored two goals back to back. Max Sieberer added an empty-netter late in the period.

Dershahn Stewart stopped all 24 Kings shots to get the shutout. Avery Hartwick had 20 saves for Komoka.

The Kings next travel to London Wednesday while the Vipers host Leamington.

Garrett Miller and Josh Vale scored twice each in the Mooretown Flags 5-2 home win over the Dresden Kings.

Mooretown sits in fourth place in the Stobbs Division with 22 points, while Dresden sits in a tie with the Essex 73s for second place with 26 points.

The Flags scored their first two goals within the first four minutes of the game. Joe Ferrara started it off at 2:01 and Garrett Miller doubled the Mooretown lead on the power play a short time later. The Kings' Kevin Ritzer scored his first goal of the game at 4:31, but Josh Vale made it a two-goal game for the Flags again. Ritzer scored again shorthanded to trim the Flags' lead to 3-2 but Miller lit the lamp for a 4-2 Mooretown lead at first intermission.

There was no scoring in the second period. The Kings' Geoffrey VandenBoorn was sent off late in the frame on a game misconduct. Vale scored his second of the game in the third period.

Jake Wilkins stopped 22 shots to take the win for the Flags, while Brendan Johnson had 29 saves for Dresden.

The Flags travel to Amherstburg Sunday night while the Kings host Blenheim on Friday.

Cory Burns had two goals as the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals beat the Blenheim Blades 5-3 at the Libro Centre.

The Admirals have 19 points for fifth place in the Stobbs Division. The Blades are in eighth place with 15 points.

Despite the Admirals taking two penalties in the first period, including a boarding misconduct for Michael Hatch, they did score first.  Burns found the net at 9:15 in the opening frame.

Amherstburg doubled their lead at just over the halfway point in the second period, as Josh Talerico scored while short-handed. The Blades got on the board at 16:30 with a Christian Moccia goal, but the Addys responded before the break with an insurance goal from Amilio Acampora, for a 3-1 lead.

The Admirals picked up back-to-back goals in the third period, with Burns' second goal of the evening, followed by a lamplighter from Bryce McGregor. Blenheim managed another goal later in the period, a power play score by Lucas Fancy.

Ben Larder had 36 saves out of 38 tries in goal for the Admirals. Chris DeWulf picked up 31 saves for the Blades.

Blenheim hosts Essex Sunday night.

David Ovsjannikov stopped all 30 Strathroy Rockets shots in the London Nationals' 5-0 win at West Middlesex Memorial Arena.

London is now in second place in the Western Conference with 27 points, while Strathroy has 16 points and is in seventh place.

The Nationals took control early with three goals in the first period, scored in order by Brenden Trottier, Josh Coyle and Cohen Kiteley. London was also able to kill off the period's only penalty, a minor charged to James Turner for cross-checking.

London added a fourth goal in the second period when Brock Trichilo found the net.  In the third period, Mathew Shuckett extended the lead to 5-0.

David Ovsjannikov got the shutout for the Nationals with 30 perfect saves. Zack Weir took the loss for Strathroy and had 33 saves.

The Rockets host St. Marys on Saturday, November 18.
