Vikings Open LKSSAA Season With Win

The senior girls basketball season tipped off Tuesday evening and the Northern Vikings got their season started with a win.

Avery Bathe-Minard scored 21 points to lead to Vikings over Ursuline College 50-31. With several key players from last year's team moving on, Northern has a younger roster than we've seen from them in recent years.

As a result several grade 10's have stepped up for the senior team, with Cassidy Hirtle scoring 10 points and Laneigh Shirley chipping in with six.

The winning start to the season is nothing new for Northern. Last fall, the Vikings went 12-0 in LKSSAA action, and were a perfect 9-0 the season before. In fact, you'd have to look back to fall of 2014 since the Vikings' senior girls team lost in LKSSAA league play, dropping both games against John McGregor that season. That's 25 straight victories for Northern against their LKSSAA counterparts.

Up next for the Vikings, they host Wallaceburg Tuesday, September 26th for a 7pm tip off.

Also on Tuesday night, the Junior Vikings beat UCC 32-27.
