Annual River Run Set For Saturday

The annual St. Clair River Run is set to go this Saturday at 8am. It features a 10 km run, and a stroller-friendly 5 km walk/run. Those taking part are asked to meet at Brander Park in Port Lambton, with registration between 6:30am and 7am. Organizer Ben Hazzard says runners will be bussed to Branton-Cundick Park in Sombra for the 10 km, and Lambton Baptist Church for the 5 km. He says they'll make their way down the parkway to the finish line at Brander Park. "This is a big city run in a village," says Hazzard. "We have 200 volunteers that come out and support the run by doing everything from handing out water bottles, to giving water to runners along the way, to shutting down the parkway and spraying fire hoses on runners to cool them down on a warm July day." Traffic along the St. Clair Pkwy. will be rerouted between Wilkesport Line and Pointe Line from 7:30am to 11am. Last year, 850 people took part in the event that raised nearly $28,000 for the St. Clair River Trail. In all, $500,000 has been raised since the event's inception eight years ago.
