Listowel's Corey Connors At U.S. Open

The first group has teed off as play is officially underway at the 117th U.S. Open.

Listowel's Corey Conners is one of two Canadian's in the field at Erin Hills in Wisconsin. The 25-year-old qualified for the major after winning the U.S. Open section qualifying in Springfield, Ohio earlier this month. He tees off at 1:30pm this afternoon

It'll be the second major of his career, after qualifying for the 2015 Masters. He currently sits 33nd on the Web.com Tour money list in his first season with status on the PGA Tour's feeder circuit. The top 25 at the end of the regular season earn PGA Tour cards for next year.

Adam Hadwin is the only other Canadian in the field, he tees off at 2:47pm this afternoon.

Last year's US Open Champion Dustin Johnson tees off at 9:35 this morning, he's in a group with Jordan Speith. Bubba Watson, Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia tee off at 2:36pm. Justin Day and Rory McIlroy tee of at 3:09pm.

Phil Mickelson was scheduled to begin his first round at 3:20pm, but announce Thursday that he has withdrawn from the tournament to attend his daughter's high school graduation.
