Legionnaires Name McCormack Captain

The Sarnia Legionnaires have named defenceman Sam McCormack as team captain.

McCormack is entering his fourth and final season on the Legionnaires blue line.

A member of the 2012-13 Lambton Jr Sting Minor Midget, McCormack also spent a season with the Mooretown Flags before joining the Legionnaires.

He says he learned a lot from previous team captains.

"Since I was a 16-year-old, I wanted this. Even having the 'A' on my jersey last year was such an honour, and now having the 'C' is amazing, I can't even believe it. You just have to work hard and treat everyone right in the dressing room. I love all of those guys, I just want to treat them like family, and treat them the way I want to be treated."

Legionnaires Head Coach Mark Davis says McCormack is a perfect choice for captain.

"Sammy will be a very good leader," says Davis. "He loves the Legionnaires, he loves the players in the dressing room, and he cares. That's huge, when you care about your hockey club it goes a long way. I'm sure he's going to spread that to every player that steps into that dressing room."

Sarnia finished fifth in the GOJHL's Western Conference with a 22-22-0-6 record.

The Legionnaires held their annual Orientation Camp on the weekend, and announced the signing of 17-year-old defenceman Tyler Beneteau. He spent last season with the Windsor Jr Spitfires Major Midget program.
