Legionnaires Bolster Roster For Upcoming Season

A pair of players have committed to the Sarnia Legionnaires for the upcoming GOJHL hockey season.

Defenceman Tyler Beneteau is going to come over from the Windsor Jr Spitfires Midget AAA team.

The 17-year-old notched a goal and 14 points along with 82 penalty minutes in 35 games last season. He also had seven points in 12 playoff contests.

Legionnaires Head Coach Mark Davis says he'll be a great addition to the organization.

"I watched Tyler all winter," says Davis. "He can be an offensive defenceman, he likes to hit, he skates well and he has a great shot. I'm excited to have him, and I know he's excited to be a Legionnaire. That's one of the biggest things, this kid came right out and said he wanted to be a Legionnaire. We're proud of him, and very happy to have him."

And, 16-year-old centre Aaron Jamieson has also committed to the team. He played with the Mississauga Reps Minor Midget Program last season.

Davis expects him to contribute in the goal scoring department this season. He scored 10 goals and had 10 assists in 33 games.

"He was actually the centreman for Sarnia Sting pick Jameson Rees," says Davis. "We committed to him Sunday, he's a heck of a hockey player and he had a great camp. This kid loves to score, he's a heck of a skater, he's a good playmaker. He's a bit like Brandon Layman, but bigger. He was talkative on the bench, and all positive. He had a smile on his face the whole time, and that's a big thing."

Sombra's Greg Hay, who had an impressive weekend at Sarnia Sting orientation camp, will also be a Legionnaire. The 16-year-old scored 20 goals and had 18 assists in 38 games with the Mooretown Flags this past season.

Only captain Brett Storr is too old to be returning to the team next season.

Davis says the Legionnaires will be holding scrimmages throughout the summer at Progressive Auto Sales Arena before the team's main camp in August.
