There were some local award winners at the University of Windsor's Athletic Banquet Wednesday evening.
Sarnia's Mike Rocca was the recipient of the DeMarco Award, which is presented to the male and female students that best combine academic achievement with athletic prowess. The fourth year guard appeared in 20 games with the Lancers men's basketball team, starting 18 of those contests. He led the team offensively, averaging 16.8 points a game while shooting 40.2% from the field.
The former St Christopher's standout made headlines in early February when he hit a half court buzzer beater to help the Lancers beat Laurier.
Averaging 31.3 minutes per game, Rocca was named an OUA second team All-Star.

Randy Beardy was awarded the captains trophy, which is given to a captain who demonstrates outstanding leadership on and off the field while also making significant contributions to their team.
Beardy, a graduate of Sarnia's Northern Collegiate, was in his fifth and final season with the Lancer's football program. After his university season came to an end Beardy joined the Ottawa RedBlacks and play his first CFL game. He was also on the team's practice roster for their Grey Cup Championship.
