The Saginaw Spirit scored three third period goals in their 6-5 win over the Sarnia Sting Monday at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
The loss, before 4,172 fans on Family Day, keeps the Sting in fourth place in the OHL West Division standings with 58 points.
Jordan Kyrou scored twice for the Sting in the second period. Marcus Crawford had a second period goal and four assists for Saginaw in the contest.
Jordan Ernst put Sarnia up first in the first period with his eighth goal of the year. Hayden Hodgson scored the first of two goals in the game to tie it at 1-1 going into the dressing room for first intermission.
Kyrou broke the tie in the second period with his first goal of the game, only to have Crawford knot the score again soon after. Kyrou responded back with his second goal at 9:38 to give the Sting a 3-2 lead. Matthew Kreis had yet another equalizer for the Spirit for a 3-3 score at the end of the frame.
Saginaw scored three unanswered goals in the third period, beginning with Hodgson's second goal of the game, followed by goals from Filip Hronek and Kris Bennett over the next three-and-a-half minutes of play. Drake Rymsha then scored one more for Sarnia, but that would be all the offence the Sting could muster.
Justin Fazio was the losing goalie for Sarnia, stopping 34 out of Saginaw's 40 shots on goal. Evan Cormier had 27 saves for the Spirit.
The Sting head to Sault Ste. Marie on Friday night to face the Greyhounds.
