Jr. B Hockey Wrap Up - February 20, 2017

Colin Wilson scored twice as the London Nationals shut out the St. Thomas Stars 4-0 in a special Family Day matinee at Western Fair Community Center.

The Nationals sit at third place in the GOJHL Western Conference with 67 points, in a tightening three-way race with the LaSalle Vipers and the Chatham Maroons and less than a week remaining in the junior B regular season.  The Stars currently hold seventh place with 39 points.

Wilson got the Nationals on the board first with the only goal of the first period, assisted by Ian McKinnon and Quinn Lenihan.  The Nationals doubled their lead to 2-0 in the second period when Isaiah Payne scored.  Ethan Nother had the assist on that one.

Wilson scored his second goal in the third period, and a goal from Nother completed the shutout.  Cameron Zanussi stopped all 29 St. Thomas shots.  Cooper Seedott had 23 saves for the Stars.

The Nationals host Strathroy Wednesday night while St. Thomas travels to Leamington Thursday.

Andrew Kim had two goals in the Lambton Shores Predators' 6-2 victory over the Legionnaires in Family Day action in Sarnia.

The Legionnaires currently hold fifth place in the Western Conference with 48 points.  Lambton Shores is at 21 points and out of playoff contention.

The Predators scored their first two goals in the first period of play.  Wes Dobbin scored first just before the halfway point of the period with Brett Fisher assisting.  Kim added an unassisted goal nine seconds before the first intermission to make the score 2-0 Lambton Shores.

The Legionnaires came back in the second period with their only two scores of the game.  Alec DeKoning got Sarnia on the board and Curtis Egert tied the game with 1:25 left in the period.

Lambton Shores scored four in the third to put the contest out of reach.  Kim's second goal gave the Predators the lead for good.  Marcel Berube, Fisher and Isaac McLean scored the remaining goals.

Cameron McAlpine had 24 saves in goal for the Predators, while Travis Moore turned away 26 shots for the Legionnaires.

The Predators host London on Thursday night, while the Legionnaries host Chatham.  Puck drop for that game is at 7:10pm and the game can be heard live on CHOK 103.9FM/AM 1070.
