Sting Fall To Otters In Shootout

The Sarnia Sting were only able to come away with one point Friday night, despite outshooting the top ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League 41-27.

Sting fans didn't have to wait long before they had something to cheer about, Troy Lajeunesse opened the scoring just over two minutes into the game. He finished off a pass from Devon Paliani, Alex Black drew the second assist. Jake Marchment evened things up with a short handed goal, scoring while the Sting were on one of their four first period powerplays.

Sarnia regained the lead in the final five minutes of the second period with a powerplay tally. Jakob Chychrun one timed a cross ice pass from Travis Konecny over the shoulder of the Otters goalie Devin Williams. Despite the first period stuggles, they finished one for eight with the man advantage. The Sting were poised to take a one goal lead into the second intermission, until a Darren Raddysh point shot eluded Charlie Graham. The goal came with 46 seconds left in the middle stanza.

The two teams traded chances in the third period and overtime, but neither team could break the 2-2 deadlock.

The overage netminders continued their dual in the shootout, both Williams and Graham were perfect through four rounds. With the Sting shooting first, Sam Studnicka was stopped by Williams, who also stopped Chychrun, Konecny, Matt Mistele and Pavel Zacha. With the game on the line Taylor Raddysh snapped a shot over the blocking arm of Graham with edge the Sting.

The weekend doesn't get any easier for Sarnia, they are in London to battle the Knights Sunday afternoon.
