Sting Pick Big Forwards Through Import Draft

The Sarnia Sting have chosen a pair of European forwards in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.

The Sting selected Finnish winger Patrick Laine with the 24th overall pick, and German born Louis Latta, brother of former captain Nickolas, 84th overall.

Laine scored eight goals and added three assists in eight games with Finland at the 2015 U-18 World Hockey Championship. The 98-born forward comes in at 6'4" 209lbs, and is projected as a first round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Sting General Manager Nick Sinclair says the team wanted to add a player who would be able to make an impact next season.

Louis Latta was also born in 1998. At 6'2" and 190lbs, he spent the majority of last season with EC Peiting's U-19 team, where he scored 26 goals and added 16 assists in 31 games.

CHL teams are allowed two import players on their roster. The Sting chose Pavel Zacha first overall in last year's draft, he was taken 6th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the NHL draft.
