Boat catches fire, collides with other watercraft

Three boaters from the U.S. were lucky to escape injury after their vessel caught fire on the St. Clair River.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Thursday at around 2 p.m., the boat caught fire for unknown reasons and drifted into Canadian waters before striking a dock, another vessel, and a sea-doo on St. Clair Parkway in St. Clair Township.

The OPP assisted the Canadian Border Service Agency, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, and the St. Clair Fire Department as the fire was extinguished.

The three occupants of the boat were not hurt and were taken back to the U.S. by the United States Coast Guard.

The Ministry of Environment has attended the scene to check for any fuel spillage and monitor the cleanup of the vessel.
