Sarnia Lambton Conservative Association backs Gladu leadership bid

The Sarnia Lambton Conservative Association has announced its unanimous support for Marilyn Gladu's bid for the federal party leadership.

Association President Gordon Perry said he believes Gladu's campaign is off to a good start.

"All I know is we're getting signatures, we're getting financial support too, which is also part of it," said Perry. "As far as I know, it's going well. We're trudging forward, I guess is the way to put it."

To be verified as a candidate on the ballot for the June 27 vote, $300,000 has to be submitted to the party, and 3,000 signatures (residing in at least 30 different electoral districts across at least seven provinces and/or territories) collected by March 25.

Perry said Canadians from coast-to-coast can support Gladu's bid in various ways.

"They can support Marilyn in the leadership race by joining the Conservative Party of Canada, if they're not already a member. If they are a member, then they can seek out of the committee to fill out a nomination form for Marilyn. Presently, we're in Wyoming at the Legion, and then we're going to Oil Springs on January 29, we're going to be at Crabby Joe's in Petrolia January 31, and we're going to be at the Navy Club in Sarnia on February 4 and 18."

Perry said Gladu, Sarnia-Lambton's MP since 2015, intends to lead the party to a better balance of fiscal responsibility and social compassion.

"We believe that she is very capable, and a very smart and intelligent woman who's quite aware of the needs of Canadians, she has a vision for Canada, and we feel that she will do an exceptional job."

The deadline for potential candidates to enter the leadership election is February 27, and the deadline to become a party member for purposes of voting in the leadership race is April 17.
