Excitement building over new Lambton College gym

Excitement is building in advance of the official opening of Lambton College's brand new, state of the art gymnasium.

The Lions men's basketball team will play its first regular season game in the facility October 18 versus Conestoga.

There are preseason contests October 4 and 7 against Heidelberg University.

Head Coach James Grant said the new gym has a lot of amenities.

"We have 1,200 seats, a couple of overhang viewing areas, and a new weight room upstairs with glass windows so that you can see down from there," said Grant. "We have a broadcast booth going in as well. It's definitely going to be the best to play in in the province, and to have that at Lambton is great for us."

Grant is confident the team will have another strong season after finishing with an overall record of 21-11 last year.

He said they'll rely on returning players Jason Watts, and Keith Laryea.

The team is adding a total of nine new faces to the roster, including Hungarian Denes Hegedus (Sandalwood Heights, Brampton), Deiondre Reid (Central Tech, Toronto), Kardon Edwards (St. Roch, Brampton), Josh Harris (New Haven, Michigan), Damian Omorogbe (Cardinal Newman, Scarborough), Jude Saint-Vaudre (Cardinal Newman, Scarborough), Deshaun Kelley (St. Clair County CC, Michigan), Jaone Walters (Bramalea, Brampton) and Joe Edmondson (Grace Baptist Academy, Malton).

Star guard Brandon Padgett is moving on after signing a professional contract in Armenia.
