Timing 'purrfect' for pet adoption event

Over 60 adoptable pets are being made available at an event this weekend.

The Sarnia and District Humane Society has teamed up with PetSmart, providing about 15 dogs and 50 cats.

Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) Agent Nicole King said the timing of the event at the Quinn Dr. store is perfect.

She said the shelter is at capacity when it comes to cats.

"We have seen an increase of stray mama cats and their babies right now that are awaiting to go into foster homes because they're full right now as well," said King. "We have so many kittens right now, I think we're at 45 kittens that are available for adoption. If we can clear them out, then we can move some foster ones back in and kind of start over."

Cats and kittens can be taken home for $75 this weekend. The price includes vaccines, deworming, microchipping and spay and neutering.

The event is being held from 3pm until 7pm Friday, and Saturday and Sunday from 11am until 3pm.
