Petrolia Hotel Development Planned

A new hotel is on the drawing board in Petrolia.

Jenna Greydanus and husband Joseph Gorzeman plan to build a three-to-four-storey, 25-room boutique hotel on an 84 ft by 130 ft piece of property north and west of their Crabby Joes Bar & Grill.

Gorzeman says recent studies show the timing is right for the $3-million development.

"Seven years ago a market study showed Petrolia wasn't ready for a hotel," says Gorzeman. "That's why we built the restaurant. Three years ago there was another study that showed accommodations could be supported. We have High Park Farms Greenhouse just outside of Petrolia in Enniskillen that will only get bigger. We have Victoria Playhouse and the hospital and the growing Central Lambton Family Health Team where people visiting family need a place to stay. It will be ideal for executives, hockey teams or local residents who want an overnight stay."

Gorzeman says the facility, to be called the Kingswell Hotel, will be built in keeping with the historic architecture of the Hard Oil Town.

"We would like to make sure that we keep with all of the historical elements and make this a beautiful place for tourists and locals, that even if you live in Petrolia you'd want a stay a night at this beautiful place."

If the necessary zoning is granted, Gorzeman hopes to begin construction in March, and open as soon as possible afterwards.
