Trial Set For Gymnastics Coach

Former gymnastics coach Dave Brubaker is to stand trial on sexual abuse charges in Sarnia court this fall.

Three days were scheduled for the trial which is to begin October 22.

Brubaker, 55, was charged last December with one count of invitation to sexual touching, and three counts each of sexual interference, sexual exploitation, and sexual assault.

The charges cover the period from 2000 to 2007 and relate to a girl, who was under 16 years of age, during part of that time.

Brubaker had 30 years experience as a coach at Bluewater Gymnastics, and as the women's national team director for Gymnastics Canada.

After hearing of the charges, both organizations put him on unpaid leave, and the local club later terminated his services as club director.

Brubaker helped train the country's top gymnasts, and his international experience included the Olympic Games and the world championships.
