Sarnia-Lambton is seeing a sharp hike in the number of tourists coming to the area, according to a hotel performance indicator.
The local hotel industry's RevPar, a metric that's used to calculate total revenue and the number of available rooms, increased by 36.5% from January to April.
Tourism Sarnia-Lambton Events Co-ordinator Vicky Praill says it's great news for the community.
"We've seen an increase of visitation through our centre, we've seen a lot of international tourists, and I think that's a testament to all the different events and attractions that we have in our area," says Praill.
Praill says Sarnia's increase, nearing 40%, leads southwestern Ontario.
The region saw a 17.3% increase over the same period, while Canada's RevPar was up 5.9%.
