Significant Hail Reported Across Region

Environment Canada received various reports of significant hail Thursday afternoon and evening as a line of severe thunderstorms rumbled across southern Ontario in advance of a cold front.

The weather agency reported Friday morning that golf ball-sized hail up to 45 mm in diameter hit Birr, north of London.

Mount Elgin, north of Tillsonburg, had half dollar-sized hail of 32 mm.

A tornado warning was issued just before 8pm Thursday for the London and Woodstock areas as a storm cell moving through that area showed signs of possibly producing a tornado. There have been no reports of any funnel clouds touching down.

There were other reports of hail of varying size from numerous communities including Dorchester where the stones were the size of ping pong balls.

Although not confirmed by Environment Canada, there were local reports of nickel-sized hail in parts of Lambton County including to the north of Wyoming.
