Battle Lines Drawn For City Vote

There is a four-way race for Sarnia mayor in the October 22 municipal election.

Candidate lists were set, unofficially, when the registration deadline passed at 2pm Friday.

Mike Bradley is seeking a tenth term in the mayor's office, and is being challenged by veteran city Councillor Ann Marie Gillis, retired Polysar worker Fred Ingham, and Kip Cuthbert who filed papers on the final day.

There are 28 names on the candidate list for the four city-only or lower tier council seats with Matt Mitro being the only incumbent.

Longtime former city councillor Terry Burrell and veteran Catholic school board trustee Michelle Parks are also on that ballot.

A total of 12 candidates are vying for the four dual city/county seats including incumbents David Boushy, Andy Bruziewicz, Bev MacDougall and Brian White.

Mike Stark, a former veteran municipal politician, is also seeking one of the upper tier seats.

There will be at least three new city councillors for the four-year term beginning December 1. Mike Kelch and Cindy Scholten are not seeking re-election, and Gillis is running for mayor.

The full list of candidates for mayor, city council, and the public and separate school boards can be found here.

The list is official as of 4pm Monday.

Internet and telephone voting is being used in the 2018 election in Sarnia, Point Edward, Petrolia, Oil Springs, Lambton Shores, Warwick, and Plympton-Wyoming.

Voting 24-7 will begin on Thursday, October 11 at 9am, and continue until election day Monday, October 22, at 8pm.
