New Personal Care Regulations

Lambton Public Health is reminding business owners they face a late August deadline to comply with a new provincial regulation.

Those offering services like haircuts, waxing, tanning, pedicures, tattoos and piercings, either from a storefront or as a home-based business, are now required to report their business name and contact info to the health agency.

Supervisor Erin Courtney says the goal is to ensure the proper practices are being followed.

"Changes ensure that business uphold required proper health practices, and reduce the potential risk of the transmission of blood-borne or other types of infections for both the clients and staff during the delivery of the personal service," she says.

Courtney says the 180 local businesses that are impacted by the legislation have already been contacted.

She says while Lambton Public Health has always conducted inspections, the rules are now more stringent and fines can be issued to violators.

The reporting deadline is August 29.
