Area Crops Showing Drought Stress

While farms in the immediate Sarnia area were soaked by an inch of rain Friday, and close to another inch Monday, Lambton Grains Committee spokesman Kevin Marriott says some farmers are coping with a prolonged drought.

"There's a lot of drought stress on both corn and soybeans," says Marriott. "In areas like that, we need one to two inches of rain like Sarnia did on Friday to stop the bleeding. We're still at a critical need of rain. It's really starting to show with yield loss showing already with soybeans."

Marriott adds there has been below normal precipitation in many parts of Lambton County over the last several weeks.

There's a chance for more rain and thunderstorms in the forecast Tuesday and Tuesday night.
