New Sports Bar In Downtown Sarnia

James Currie has spent about $500,000 to transform the former Liquid Johnny's bar and Chinese Restaurant at 117 Christina St. S. into The Hawg Bar.

The Smoke & Spice Southern Barbecue owner says it was an ideal location.

"We were looking for a spot to open up a bar, a spin-off of the restaurant we have, and when the spot became available at the Greenwood Inn, it seemed to be a good fit for us," says Currie.

Currie says they've opened up 4,000 sq ft of basement space with windows and added a large lounge area to the back of the bar/restaurant.

"We opened up the whole back of the building which wasn't accessible before so we completely opened it up into a lounge area with couches, coffee tables and a glass garage door for looking out onto the river."

There will be 26 full and part-time at The Hawg Bar which will feature nine big flat-screen TVs, a full menu and an 18-seat bar.

Patrick Coutu and Jim Pumple have developed the upper two floors into 22, furnished, executive monthly rental suites.
