Valley Axe On Leading Edge Of Competition

Members of Sarnia's Valley Axe are coming off an impressive showing at the recent Canadian Nationals in Pembroke.

Master level knife thrower Brett Dewhirst won the gold cup head to head championship and conventional scoring title.

Jerry Gruszecki swept the amateur ranks in tomahawk, winning the silver cup head to head championship and conventional program.

Andrew Hill won the long-distance championship with a 67 ft tomahawk throw.

Valley Axe Owner Bo Tait says the success speaks to the quality of the club.

"We have a really great community here," says Tait. "Everybody comes in every week helping each other out. There are a lot of dedicated throwers. Not everybody took home a trophy, but there were a lot of personal bests set."

Tait says Amanda Sabastian also had a great competition, making the pro ranks in knife throwing.

He says the winners now have the chance to compete in the upcoming world championships in Austin, Texas.
