One Treated For Smoke Inhalation In House Fire

Two dogs had to be rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out at a Sarnia home.

The Sarnia fire department says on Monday around 5:45pm, fire crews responded to the house on Durand St. to find large plumes of thick black smoke billowing out of the home, along with 3 meter high orange flames.

The residents were able to make it out of the home safely, but one person was treated for smoke inhalation.

One family dog was immediately when firefighters arrived, while the other was taken out of the fire engulphed home following a "suspenseful search." One of the dogs had to be sent to a vet for assessment.

A family cat could not be located in time and died in the fire.

Damage to the home is estimated at $120,000.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown but the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office will be attending the scene.
