Sentencing For Hospital Drug Thief Delayed

A Bluewater Health nurse who pleaded guilty to stealing fentanyl from operating rooms at the hospital has had his sentencing delayed again.

Sentencing for 33-year-old David Cartwright of Sarnia has been adjourned until August 7.

The court is still waiting for a pre-sentence report to be completed.

Bluewater Health conducted an audit of medication inventory and filed a complaint with Sarnia police in August 2017 after discrepancies were noticed.

Police said an anesthetic box containing various medications and narcotics had been removed from an operating room floor on August 10.

On subsequent days, additional vials of fentanyl were removed from a medication dispensing machine on the operating room floor.

An investigation was launched by the Vice Unit and Criminal Investigations Branch.

Cartwright was identified as a suspect and subsequently arrested.
